Dear Reader,

there at least a couple of strong feelings that I experience when I’m learning something new (ok, the “something new” part is redundant, learning is always about new ways of looking at a problem):

  1. I feel triumphant, blazing through new territories as I’ve always belonged there. Questions come naturally before comprehension, and even answers come before questions. Soft focus, high endorphins.
  2. I feel crap, a complete failure; I struggle to understand every concept and the process is similar to wading across multiple shifting sands in a vacuum-suite. Sharp, almost sufferingly narrow focus, low endorphins.

Yet, I have few doubts: my time is spent more efficiently in the second case. The ratio of information gained vs time devoted skyrockets! As in a workout, it is when a muscle breaks that it gets stronger, so it is in learning.

I have no problems choosing for myself, long suffer-fests exams and workshops are my go-to choice. Difficulties arise when I have to decide for my children, but I have no doubt they will thank me.

Maybe not now.

Maybe not later.

…eventually perhaps.

Until next time, choose the path with the highest ROI.
